The Modernistics captivate audiences of all ages with Music and Dance from the Great American Songbook, featuring the charismatic singing and tap dancing team of Ted and Pamela Powers with virtuoso jazz musicians Peter H. Bloom on flute, Mark Leighton on guitar, and Dave Zox on double-bass. Among the many selections are: Sunny Side of the Street, Paper Moon, Bye-Bye Blackbird, Let’s Misbehave, Top Hat, Skylark, Night and Day, Fascinating Rhythm, and It Don’t Mean A Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing.
Peter H. Bloom, praised for his “hip, jazzy flute work” (Allaboutjazz.com),
has concertized in North America, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand
and is featured on 45 CDs. He has shared the stage with Charles Neville,
Sheila Jordan, Jaki Byard and other notables, and is a veteran of the
legendary Aardvark Jazz Orchestra (45th season). Mark Leighton is acclaimed as a jazz and classical guitarist, performs widely, and serves on the faculties of Colby College and St. George’s School.Ted Powers’ career in jazz, blues, and pop includes several years as a solo
performer in the south of France and tap-dancing in the U.S. with the
legendary Jimmy “Sir Slyde” Mitchell. Pamela Powers has performed and
taught in the United States, Germany and England. She studied with Harold
Nicholas of the iconic Nicholas Brothers and with renowned Broadway
choreographer Charles Hughes. Bassist Dave Zox has performed with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, the Artie Shaw Band, Herb Reed and the Platters, John Abercrombie, Kenny Werner, Phil Woods, and other illustrious artists.

It’s been five years and now Jimmy Tingle is back at the CCA! This solo show entitled “Humor for Humanity” aspires to raise spirits, funds and awareness for nonprofits, charities and social causes. Join us for this fun evening of comedy. Jimmy will be helping out with our benefit auction to support the CCA at the end of the show.
Jimmy Tingle is a humorist, commentator, activist, and entrepreneur and was a 2018 candidate for Lt Governor of Massachusetts. He received 41.3% of the vote in the Massachusetts primary on September 4th2018.
He is a graduate of UMASS Dartmouth and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government where he earned a Masters Degree in Public Administration (MPA). He was the graduate school commencement speaker at Harvard graduation for the class of 2010.
He has worked as a humorist and commentator for 60 Minutes II and MSNBC and has appeared on The Tonight Show, CNN, Conan O’Brien, Fresh Air with Terry Gross and in his own HBO half-hour comedy special.
Theatrical credits include writing, performing and producing several one-person shows including Uncommon Sense; Jimmy Tingle for President- The Funniest campaign in History and Jimmy Tingle’s American Dream.
He has appeared in several documentaries films including Damned in the USA; America with the Top Down; When Stand up Stood Out; Call Me Lucky directed by Bobcat Goldthwait and Jimmy Tingle’s American Dream which Jimmy wrote and produced and directed by Vincent Straggas.
Feature film work includes Next Stop Wonderland; Boondock Saints; Head of State starring Chris Rock and Clear History starring Larry David.
Tingle has the rare distinction of winning Boston Magazine’s “Best of Boston” in the stand-up comedy category and for “best alternative theater” as the producer and artistic director of Jimmy Tingle’s OFF BROADWAY Theater in Somerville.
